What is Citizen Science?
Our very own Dr. Nargess Memarsadeghi wrote an article on this, which is a great resource. But the simple ethos of citizen science is that anyone can contribute to science.
Research is generally constrained by information gathering, or data processing. One of the oldest active citizen science projects is the Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count, which began in the early 20th century to take census of dwindling bird populations. Since then, citizen science has expanded massively, having been embraced by organizations such as NASA for a wide variety of applications. From classifying wildlife to combing through astronomical imagery to find undiscovered planets, ordinary people can help scientists around the world advance our understanding of the world and the cosmos.
